Job Summary
Montran is seeking a skilled Software Engineer (Java) to join their Nairobi-based team in developing and supporting mission-critical financial market infrastructure solutions. In this role, you will contribute to building robust payment, clearing, settlement, and capital market systems used by leading financial institutions across Africa. You will work within a collaborative delivery team, participating in software development, testing, documentation, and maintenance while engaging closely with global Montran teams. This role is ideal for a curious, detail-oriented engineer with solid software fundamentals and 2–4 years of Java development experience who is eager to grow within a high-impact, international environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance Montran’s market infrastructure software solutions as part of a delivery team.
- Participate in testing, QA, and debugging of software components.
- Document software deliverables and maintain clear technical records.
- Perform maintenance and support of existing systems.
- Collaborate closely with team members in Nairobi and across global offices.
- Follow directions from the Lead Senior Software Engineer and contribute effectively to team goals.
Required Qualifications
- 2-4 years of professional experience as a Java Software Engineer.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
- Additional Certifications in Software Engineering + related specializations are an added advantage.
- Demonstrable knowledge of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and software engineering fundamentals.
- Demonstrable grasp of OOP principles.
- Proficiency in Java (Jakarta EE and Spring Boot knowledge is a plus).
- Demonstrable knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
- Demonstrable knowledge of web technologies.
- A strong work ethic, curiosity, and a collaborative mindset.
- Strong spoken and written English communication skills.
- A Strong and effective team player able to take and carry out instructions effectively under direction of the Lead Senior Software Engineer.
Added advantages:
- Demonstrable ability to understand and evolve existing codebases – strong debugging and code comprehension skills.
- Demonstrable knowledge of Docker, Linux and Gradle is a plus.
- Multi-lingual. English + (French, Portuguese or Spanish).
- Familiarity with financial systems, payment solutions & platforms.
- A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Key Skills
- Strong Java programming skills (Jakarta EE / Spring Boot is a plus).
